The Story of Business & Tar Heel Titans
   The Hall and its members tell the historic and economic story of the Old North State, from 19th to the 21st Century.

   It is a reflection of the exciting, and sometimes turbulent, times as North Carolina grew from a marginal agricultural economy into a leading state with one of the most diversified business economies with national and international implications.  The North Carolina Business History web site covers an extensive history of industry and business in the Old North State, including the NC Business Hall of Fame.

Recommended by a committee from North Carolina Chamber (formerly the North Carolina Citizens for Business & Industry), inductees to the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame must be either retired from their business or at least 70 years old at the time of selection. Laureates also are recognized for their outstanding community contributions.
   Laureates are inducted in November at the annual hall of fame dinner — the premiere business event in the state. The 2005 laureates are shown at right. In the back row (left to right) are: Joan Zimmerman, Hugh McColl; front row are William Cecil and David Stedman.

   Criteria for inclusion in the NC Business Hall of Fame includes:
    1) recognized by his or her organization and/or profession as
        having made significant contribution to its success;
    2) served as a role model for others in business;
    3) positively influenced the growth of subordinates; and
    4) demonstrated a continuity of achievements, contrasted to a
        one-time effort.

   The information presented in this site is intended to provide students, researchers, reporters and business executives with background information on the development of industry in this state — from its earliest settelement through today. Profiles of industries and companies are continually being added to the site.
